(b. South africa)

DINIKA is a multi–DISCIPLINARY artist, writer and cultural producer

based Between South africa and dubai – she explores the language that constructs our inner worlds and scripts our intimate lives.

With no formal arts training, her practice is experimental: geared at creating environments that invite us to be gently re-sensitised– to take a hard look at the language that makes up our patterns of thought, the cultures we participate in, and the systems we (often unwittingly) perpetuate.

Born and raised in South Africa, her practice sees macro themes of power / politics / popular culture / historical displacement and spatial apartheid rub up against internal themes of identity / love / community / assimilation / aspiration / and sheer survival.

She most recently completed solo residency with Bubblegum Gallery – an emerging-arts focused initiative of the pan-African cultural organisation, Bubblegum Club.

This culminated in Games Night: a month-long interactive performance and exhibition occupying an apartment in downtown Johannesburg’s Hallmark House Hotel.

She is currently working on a text-based series exploring the lines governing the personal and the political, and what to say when words fail us.

When she’s not in studio, she’s likely on set, on a Slack channel, or buying more books than she reads.
